Gaayen Ravii Sahgal, 4th Year Medical Student, King’s College London
Gaayen Ravii Sahgal is a 4th Year Medical Student at King’s College London with a strong interest in maternal-fetal medicine and diagnostic innovations in obstetrics. His current research focuses on the development and assessment of a novel, whole-blood, point-of-care placental growth factor (PlGF) test, LEPZI® Quanti PLGF, for the prediction of pre-eclampsia. His study evaluates the test’s sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values, comparing it to established PlGF tests, with promising results that could enhance diagnostic options globally.
At the SMFM 2024 Global Conference in Rome, Gaayen will be presenting his findings, which underscore the potential of point-of-care PlGF testing to improve accessibility and early detection of pre-eclampsia, especially in low-resource settings. His passion for research and advancing maternal health drives his academic and professional pursuits, with a vision of making impactful contributions to global healthcare.
Gaayen currently sits on the committee of Kings' Laparoscopic and Surgical Skills Society and the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society. He is also actively involved nationally as part of the British Indian Medical and Surgical Associations (BIMA & BISA). Outside of academics, he mentors high school students aspiring to enter medical school and teaches younger medical students on key exam topics, reflecting his dedication to education and mentorship.
