Linda Iorizzo, PhD work as a senior consultant at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Skane University Hospital Lund, Sweden and is a researcher at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University, Sweden. The research is mainly focused on secondary tools for fetal monitoiring during labor to improve the safety for the mother and baby during labor and to intervene appropriatly. Electronic fetal monitoring during labor has the draw back of a low predictive value for fetal distress with many false positives why more research is needed in the field to reduce unecessary instrumental deliveries and cesaean sections since these interventions are associated with risks for the mother and baby.
Our research group has previously proposed a new cut-off for intervention for fetal scalp blood lactate, analysed bedside with a lactatemeter validated in fetal blood, based on neonatal outcomes in a large cohort. In our poster we present the results of the clinical follow up of the new cutoff for intervention for fetal scalp blood lactate.
