Ms. Monica Frøystad, MSc, is a PhD student at the University of Oslo and employed at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet.
She has a Master's degree in Biotechnology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and has experience working with molecular genetics in bacteria. However, she became more interested in immunology in later years and switched fields by taking a PhD position at the Research Institute of Internal Medicine (RIIM) at Oslo University Hospital. Her principal supervisor is Tove Lekva, PhD, and they are both members of Thor Ueland's group, titled Inflammatory Biomarkers in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease.
She is currently working on her PhD project, which started autum 2023 and is titled "Early detection of preeclampsia and future cardiovascular disease using non-coding RNA". The project requires a wide array of techniques, from placenta dissection to fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS).
